You Life: Ready, Set, Go!’s creator, Linda McDowell, has been an Ohio Parent Mentor for twelve years at Middletown City School District in Middletown, Ohio. Her work with families on transition issues and her personal experience with her sons' journeys through special education and transition have given her a wealth of knowledge about the struggles families and students face.
The Your Life: Ready, Set, Go! card game was first developed and used with Linda’s son and a few of his friends. The game quickly spread to other families, into the school district and other school districts as part of transition training that Linda conducted. She created the Skills List because of the identified need to track progress over time – not just for the IEP or school districts, but also for families!
With encouragement from many, the game and Skills List was copyrighted and produced for sale in May 2009. Linda’s hope for the future would include the opportunity to hire the same young adults who have benefited from this game as she moves forward with mass production of Your Life Ready, Set, Go!
